Image
There are many reasons you might want to reset a password: Someone gave you a computer with Ubuntu installed on it but not the password for the user account. You just installed Ubuntu and forgot what password you selected during the installation process. You have too many passwords in your life and can't keep track of them all. Well, this tutorial will help you reset your Ubuntu user account password, regardless of what reason you have for resetting it. First, you have to reboot into recovery mode . If you have a single-boot (Ubuntu is the only operating system on your computer), to get the boot menu to show, you have to hold down the Shift key during bootup. If you have a dual-boot (Ubuntu is installed next to Windows, another Linux operating system, or Mac OS X; and you choose at boot time which operating system to boot into), the boot menu should appear without the need to hold down the Shift key. From the boot menu, select recovery mode , which is usually the s

install Mac OS X

Image
using a Mac to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a PC . Unfortunately, you may be unable to follow such tutorials if you do not readily have access to a Mac to perform the preparation necessary for the installation. Great progress has been made in hacking PCs to run OS X, and it is now possible to install Mac OS X without a Mac . Thanks to some great tools put together by some brilliant hackers, it is also much easier and does not involve nearly as much time and effort as was once required. Step 1: Getting The Hardware Ready I recently purchased the following set of hardware for the purposes of building a Hackintosh (often PCs running Mac OS X are referred to as such): Intel Core i3-530 Clarkdale 2.93GHz Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 Motherboard 4 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (2 x 2GB) DVD Burner MicroATX Computer Case 585 Watt Power Supply 4-pin to 8-pin Power Adapter The motherboard has an 8-pin power connector on it, and although it is possible to connect a single 4-pin connector to

Installing Fedora 10

Image
You will need the Fedora 10 DVD image that corresponds to your hardware architecture (i386 or amd64), and which can be downloaded from here . When the download is over, burn the ISO image with your favorite CD/DVD burning application (Brasero on Linux or Nero, CDBurnerXP, Roxio on Windows) on a blank DVD at 4x speed. · We, here at the Softpedia Labs, always recommend having an empty hard drive for a Linux installation (that means no other operating system on it, no Windows), and you must have a minimum of 10 GB free space for the Fedora installation. Great, now let's begin. Insert or leave the DVD in your CD/DVD-ROM device, and reboot the computer in order to boot from the DVD. Hit the F8 or F12 key (depending on your BIOS) to select the CD/DVD-ROM as the boot device. You'll be presented with a very nice Fedora artwork GRUB splash and some options... At this stage, we simply suggest you press Enter, and wait for the system to load... Select the &quo

How to install Ubuntu

Image
- Install from CD - Install with Wubi - Install in EXT3 Partition - Install from USB When it comes to installing popular Linux flavour   Ubuntu , there are so many useful snippets of information on blogs and guides all over the internet. If you Google “How to install Ubuntu”, you’ll see what I mean. For an Ubuntu beginner or curious Windows intermediate user however, there’s no single, simple source of information when it comes to trying out your first Ubuntu installation. One thing I have noticed is that there’s a lot of technical jargon and sometimes unnecessary terminal commands in lengthy forum posts, but no simple “how to” guides, which I think  might put some people off! A shame, when you think about how easy Ubuntu is to install, use and tweak to look really cool ! This post will talk you through your first Ubuntu installation , hopefully teaching you everything you need to know to give Ubuntu a try without breaking or removing your existing Windows installation
